Dear Bill My father's name is Frederick Paul Stanton and he served as a Steward aboard the RNZNS Black Prince in the early 1950s. He also served briefly on the Bellona and Lachlan. He was awarded the Korean medal in 1953 and the UNSM medal in January 1954. He deserted the Navy some time in 1956. My query is that after a couple of years my father, according to his naval record, was no longer sought by the RNZN. Why would this be so? Was there a time limit on the pursuit of deserters or could my father have had special circumstances considered. I am very interested to know because I have not heard or been able to establish any information concerning my father since the late 1950s. I would be grateful for any information you could provide me with, or any suggestions to sources I should consult, Sincerely and with thanks, Rikki Wilde.
