MINUTES OF THE INAUGRAL MEETING OF THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL ASSOCIATION HELD IN THE CLUBROOMS OF THE PALMERSTON NORTH R.S.A. (INC) 200 BROADWAY AVENUE PALMERSTON NORTH ON SUNDAY 13th MAY 2007 AT 0900

Members of the Royal New Zealand Naval Association Bruce Puke Puke, Wilbur Salisbury, Hapi October, Ron Mayell, Gavin Jones, Ricky Bristow, Lew Woods, Barry Bollington, Frank Jefferies BEM, Stuart Lothian, Jan Davey (also RNA Torpoint UK) Bill Lochrie. This Meeting was called by both the Ex Royal Naval Men's Association of New Zealand (Inc), and the Royal New Zealand Naval Association (Inc), after a General Meeting of each Association agreeing to voluntarily wind up their Association and form a new Association called the Royal New Zealand Naval Association. The purpose of this meeting was to elect a National Council of the new Association called the Royal New Zealand Naval Association and to ratify the Rules of that Association. The Scrutineers were Rear Admiral Peter McHaffie (Rtd) who is also the Returning Officer, Ernie Koch and Mr Larry Boyle. Rear Admiral David Ledson RNZN Chief of Navy opened the meeting at 0900. Rear Admiral David Ledson called for nominations for National President. Nominations were received from the following Keith Gordon Proposed by David Bremner Seconded by Ernie Koch Trevor WyIde Proposed by Wayne Freeman Seconded by Jan Luttrell Ron Mayell moved that nominations for National President be closed. Rear Admiral asked those present if they wished to vote by Secret Ballot or by Show of Hands. It was decided the method of voting be Show of Hands. The Returning Officer Rear Admiral McHaffie (Rtd) advised the result of the vote after the vote had been counted. The results being as follows Keith Gordon 8 Trevor WyIde 34 Rear Admiral David Ledson RNZN handed the meeting over to Trevor WyIde and congratulated him on his election as National President. Trevor WyIde then called for nominations for National Secretary. Nominations were received for Brian Gill Proposed by Grahame Roll Seconded by David Leese Gary Mowat moved that nominations close for National Secretary. Wayne Freeman seconded this. Trevor WyIde then called for nominations for National Vice President. Nominations were received from the following Keith Gordon Proposed by David Bremner Seconded by Trevor Appleton Ron Mayell Proposed by Wilbur Salisbury Seconded by Gavin Jones Neil Balloch Proposed by Neil Berry Seconded by David Leese Jan Luttrell Proposed by Trevor Appleton Seconded by Arthur Carman Barry Bollington Proposed by Gavin Jones Seconded by Frank Jefferies Neil Berry moved that nominations be closed. This was seconded by Barry Church. The National President, Trevor WyIde suggested that the means of vote be a Secret Ballot and that there is no more than two required. The Scrutineers distributed the means of Ballot and whilst the Scrutineers were distributing the Ballot the National President Trevor WyIde asked those who were standing for National Vice President to each stand and give a few words about themselves. Whilst the Scrutineers 'Were counting the votes for National Vice President the venue for the next National Conference was discussed. Ron Mayell suggested Wellington as this would be handy to the Chief of Navy. The National President Trevor WyIde advised that normally National Conferences are held around the country giving members the chance to meet National Councillors and Delegates. To host the National Conference in Wellington would be subject to Wellington Branch's approval to host. Peter Kendrick put Taranaki Branch's name forward to host. Gavin Jones nominated the Christchurch Branch. The National President then put these two Branches forward to vote on which one will host the 2009 National Conference. The result being Taranaki 22 Christchurch 13 The National President declared that the next National Conference will be hosted by the Taranaki Branch. The Returning Officer Rear Admiral Peter McHaffie (Rtd) presented the results of the election of two National Vice Presidents. The results being: Keith Gordon 22 Ron Mayell 24 Neil Balloch 11 Jan Luttrell 16 Barry Bollington 7 The Returning Officer declared that the two National Vice Presidents are Keith Gordon and Ron Mayell. The National President called for nominations for National Councillors. After receiving 9 nominations for National Councillor and the requirement is 6 Gary Mowat moved that nominations close. Ron Mayell seconded this. The following nominations were received. After the Secret Ballot was collected and the Scrutineers were count the votes the National President, Trevor WyIde called for nominations for Assistant National Secretary. Nominations were received from Bill Lochrie Proposed by Bill Mulhall Seconded by Frank Jefferies Nominations were closed. RATIFICATION OF PROPOSED DRAFT RULES: The National President, Trevor WyIde advised that there were 3 representatives from both the Ex Royal Naval Men's Association of New Zealand (Inc) and the Royal New Zealand Naval Association (Inc) and a representative for the WRENS met at the Naval Base in November 06 to draft a set of Rules for the new Association. Once drafted by this group copies were sent to all Branches. As there have not been any queries received he suggested that these Rules be adopted and that if there are any changes that need to be made can be put forward to the next National Council Meeting in 2008. Bill Lochrie moved that the Proposed Draft Rules of the Royal New Zealand Naval Association be adopted. Ron Mayell seconded this. CARRIED. Gary Mowat moved that a new Presidents Chain be looked into and the new design be distributed to Branches. Wayne Gaby seconded this.
As the new Rules state that the Chief of Navy is
the Patron the National President Trevor WyIde welcomed Rear Admiral David
Ledson RNZN as Patron of the new Association. Rear Admiral David Ledson RNZN made a presentation of a framed Certificate to signal the new beginning of the Association to Ron Mayell National President of the old Royal New Zealand Naval Association (Inc) and to Trevor WyIde Immediate Past National President of the Ex Royal Naval Men's Association of New Zealand (Inc). Rear Admiral David Ledson then presented a framed Certificate of the new Royal New Zealand Naval Association to the National President Trevor WyIde. Rear Admiral David Ledson RNZN then made a presentation to both the National Secretaries Bill Lochrie and Brian Gill for their efforts in joining both the Associations to form a new Association by presenting them with the Chief of Navy Crest. The Returning Officer then presented the results of the Election of the National Councillors. The results being as follows Judith Waddell 16 Jan Luttrell 33 Neil Balloch 28 David Leese 33 Trevor Appleton 25 Wilbur Salisbury 21 Grahame Roll 16 Gavin Jones 23 Hapi October 22 The Returning Officer declared the following as National Councillors David Leese Trevor Appleton Jan Luttrell Neil Balloch Gavin Jones Hapi October The National President, Trevor WyIde Thanked the Scrutineers and Rear Admiral McHaffie (Rtd) for being the Returning Officer. He also thanked the Chief of Navy Rear Admiral David Ledson RNZN, Cliff Heyward for his presentation on the RNZN Museum, David Leese and Barry Church of the Palmerston North Branch for hosting the Conference. The National Vice President, Ron Mayell addressed the meeting and wished everyone well. Barry Church thanked all who have attended on behalf of the Palmerston North Branch and apologised for the Restaurant running out of food the night before. The meeting closed by the president at 0955.
