Following received from Alby

To the ships Co & all other friends,

Being asked to write /prepare suitable words for a monument that is dedicated to you all, that is going to hopefully remain in place for ever was a huge task and a responsibility that I, though very honored to have been asked, took very seriously.

I have attached the final draft for you all to peruse, I know, I will not satisfy everyone but I guess that is a path that I alone will have walk.

I was asked and was conscious that there is another navy who I felt deserved recognition for their service to world peace as we know it, thus you will observe that I have recognized the Merchant Marine along side the Royal navy of all countries, I also dedicate these words to all American sailors who have fought and died along side our navies of the past and present.

It is now time to say thank you to those who contributed, criticized, growled and forwarded their interpretation as to what should or should not be written but above all supported me, thank you.

It is amazing that old ship mates that I have not heard from in years contacted me, and you know what the most interesting thing was, every one of you were supportive.

I was even contacted by an ex-submariner from America who had been through the same deal, he was following the events closely and he was very supportive.

I would like to thank the president, Nobby Clark, Sec/Treas Bill Newell (Souse) and the ships Co of the Western B.O.P.Royal New Zealand Naval Association for having the faith in my judgment, for which at no stage did they ever question my judgment, I can assure you that leaves one with a warm feeling, I can clearly remember Bill Newell telling me that this is your baby Doc and we have total faith in you and will not interfere, Jesus I felt lonely, but non the less privileged, a special thank you to Captain Chris Carl for his faith and support, by the way team, the old man hasn't changed, thank god, still amoung the best we have ever had, for with out his guidance the result may well have been different, and I think that is also what makes it special that you guys contributed a lot as well, thanks team, damn nice, it is a privilege to share a mess deck with you.

I wish you could all be here on the 20th April, it would be great to share a tot with you.

I understand that the Prime Minister .. Governor General, and all the service chiefs are supposed to be there, if you would like to confirm this ring Tga RSA(07) 5789-654 ask for Ray Terrill or Graeme Howard.

Wishing you all calm seas and favorable following winds.

 Alby.
