Gordon passed away suddenly in Timaru on 12 March 08.

Gordon joined the Navy as a steward at the age of 16 in 1949. He later changed to a chef and later served in Korea on the HAWEA and then went to the BELLONA and BLACK PRINCE as the Captain's Chef. He left the Navy in 1955. Some time later, in 1988 Gordon became the NRO for South Canterbury. Gordon remained in this role until the disbanding of the NROs in 2005.

A service will be held at St Mary's Church, Timaru on Monday 17 March at 1400.
