From the Herald this morning

HARKER

Jack Stanley. QSM (ex P.O. Tel RNZN 1210).

Died peacefully in his 92nd year at Auckland Hospital on 8 February 2008 after a courageous battle with postoperative heart failure.
Dearly loved husband of the late Marguerite, father and father in law of Sheryn (deceased), Gael and Earl, Malcolm and Alan, Philip and Lee, and Jan and Joe; much loved Poppy of Rochelle and Ross, Kendall and Mark, Cynthia, Jonathon and Jenny; greatgrandfather of Rachel, Rebecca, Jessica, Wynnr, Daniel and Jordan; uncle of Pauline and Peter; cherished longtime companion of Colleen and dear friend of David, Shirley and Callum, Jack will be sadly missed by all who loved him, and by those whose lives he touched in his personal accounts of the NZ Navy fighting ships.

God rest his soul. `Home is the sailor, home from sea, and the hunter home from the hill.' Our thanks to the efforts and compassion of the operating team and nurses (especially Richard) at Auckland Hospital. Jack's funeral service will be held at the Naval Memorial Chapel of St Christopher, HMNZS Philomel, (Naval Base) Devonport on Friday 15 February at 10.30 am followed by private cremation.
